And now?…
Here I am after one year of trying to figure out what to do with my book, my life, my career.
Many things have changed, I am now back to an office job 40 hours per week, I am not longer in a relationship (still quite heartbroken), and I haven’t written a single post for one year.
On the bright side, I do have a lovely cosy home, amazing friends, and I am healthy and in good shape.
But for some inexplicable reasons, I got stuck in my thoughts and in what I call creativity paralysis. I am still cooking and experimenting and happy with the results. I even got a job offer as a recipe developer. However, I am not able to pass the recipes. It might be a severe case of fear of failure. Therefore I decided after 12 months to get back out there and post something about what’s happening to me.

Things on the right track
- exercising
- practising everyday yoga Nidra
- embracing veganism
- quality time with my friends (cinema, talks, exhibitions)
- taking photos
- listening to amazing podcasts
To improve
- write everyday
- post in social media regularly
- organize a business meeting
- find a publisher
I hope that this post will give me some accountability and encouragement to go on with my book. What I have discovered is that no matter what were the bumps in the road of my life, the idea about writing a book never changes.
If you happen to read my blog, please leave a comment or advice, and if you had the same experience, what was your stumbling block?
Have a lovely Sunday.
Monica
I think fear of failure is the big one. Especially when it is something you’re passionate about. I think people forget that improvement and success isn’t linear either, you’re going to have periods (which can be years) of feeling like you’re not moving, you just need to remember this is normal.
Also, I know 2 Australians who would love some simple vegan recipes, so if you want some people to try them consider us signed up 🙂
Thank you John 🙂 Now I have to do it!!!
Sorry to hear about your crushed heart!♥️ I think sometimes you have to shake yourself up a little. While I never recommend looking at examples in your own discipline for inspiration (like, if I need inspiration for making a bag, I don’t go looking at other bags. I might go to a photography exhibition or a dance show), it’s possible to make room for new thoughts again by looking at a different form. So, not a traditional cookbook, but maybe something more personal. Still a book, but with a wider spectrum. This can be a different shape (journal like), or a travelbook. Background information about your cooking roots. Form, colour, texture etc. If I am being vague, i’m sorry! Shake that brain and let it breathe and something will come up 😘
Thanks a lot!! I will definitely follow your advice Jenneke 🙂
